There are various types of Fujitsu laptop batteries that are capable of being recycled. These formats include Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cd), Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH), and Lithium Ion (Li-ion) batteries. Many Fujitsu notebook batteries are also stamped with a Battery Recycling Seal on the back, to verify that it is not hazardous. Fujitsu laptop batteries are also CE and RoHS compliant, certifying that the unit has met EU and EEA safety, health, and environmental restrictions. All Fujitsu sold within the European Union must meet the strict RoHS guidelines.
A Fujitsu laptop battery is manufactured with heavy metals inside, giving good reason for there to be such a high environmental concern. If disposed of incorrectly, the internal heavy metals may leak, as the battery becomes eroded. This can be immensely dangerous, and contributes to soil pollution and water pollution. Various components in a Fujitsu notebook battery are toxic to fish and make them unfit to be consumed. Each year Australian households discard up to 8,000 tons of used batteries.
Fujitsu notebook batteries with a Lithium-ion power supply, should have an estimated life-expectancy of about 300 - 500 charge/discharge cycles. Lithium-ion style batteries should also never be fully discharged, and should be connected to the AC adapter when reaching a level of 10 - 20%. The technology used in a Fujitsu laptop battery is still being enhanced and is continually extending the life of mobile electronics. Lithium-ion battery manufactures have a standard life span of about 2 to 3 years, and are prone to failure due to exposure to excessive heat; as well as irregular charge/discharge cycles.
